Aside from a healthy balanced diet, proper hydration, and a good sleep routine, how do you support your immune system and general well being? In the spirit of a healthy and positive start to January, I wanted to share some of my favorite supplements that help support my vital functions and even mental clarity. I like to keep supplements easily accessible in a place where I see them everyday and can easily incorporate them into meals or breaks.
I am obviously not a doctor or medical professional, so please consult your physician before starting a new routine. Here are just some of my favorite supplements to help you live your best life.
Multivitamin
A great place to start and something that’ll supplement your diet no matter what. I started taking Ritual for women last year and I love the minty taste. I was previously using gummy multivitamins but wanted to cut down on the unnecessary sugar and calories. Ritual uses clinical research data to develop their multivitamin to help fill nutrient gaps in our diets. They emphasize their traceable supply chain and exactly where they source their ingredients from. Use code CHELSEA for 10% off, plus free shipping always!
Biotin
I’ve been taking biotin on and off for the last 10 years, it really works! Nature’s Bounty makes strawberry flavored gummy vitamins that help strengthen your nails. If you use and abuse your nails with polish, gel, dip, or even press ons, I highly recommend exploring the benefits of biotin.
CBD
There are so many potential uses for CBD oil, but I typically use it for managing stress, anxiety, and pain. Before reduction surgery, it helped with the constant back pain. Now it helps with my frequent TMJ pain. Pachamama makes my favorite CBD oil of the moment, love both the high dose and taste.
Omega-3
This is one I really ramped up last year, but omega-3 supplements from Nordic Naturals have really impressed me. Fish oil supplements help support a health heart and brain. Nordic Naturals makes the #1 selling omega-3 in the US and they truly have zero fishy aftertaste.
Collagen
Along with biotin, I see a noticeable different in the strength of my nails with a collagen supplement. I love flavorless collagen because it’s so easy add to coffee, smoothies, and many other recipes. NeoCell makes my favorite. Pro tip, try the berry lemon flavor collagen in a warm drink during the colder months. It’s like a healthy take on a hot toddy.
Emergen-C
Long time fan of this and I always have Emergen-C packets stashed away on every trip. This is a powerhouse powder packed with vitamin C and zinc to help boost your immunity. I take it before and after every flight, and always at the first signs of a cold.
Oil of Oregano
Oregano oil was recommended to me by so many others when asking for natural cold remedies to help curb symptoms. It’s a little spicy, but I feel like a half or full dropper of this stuff helps clear my sinuses when I’m feeling sick. I have a small batch blended tincture from Kauai Farmacy that is extremely strong. I feel like it really helps!
Electrolytes
Sometimes drinking a ton of water just isn’t enough to keep you actually hydrated. My acupuncturist at Modern Acupuncture recommended I up my electrolyte intake to help with arthritic pain in my hands. Over the last few months I’ve been trying the Liquid IV Hydration Multiplier and the Passion Fruit flavor has to be my favorite, it tastes just like Hawaiian Punch. I usually drink it after lunch during my 2:30pm slump, in place of an afternoon coffee or espresso. I love the increased hydration and mental clarity Liquid IV gives me. There’s also some sugar in there, so it feels like a mini treat. I don’t think I’ll go back to stocking Gatorade for sick days or hangovers, either.
