May was a month of long days cranking away at work and a well-deserved vacation. I spent the end of May and early June touring the Midwest, so I kept my beauty routine super concise and simple, while incorporating some new things I recently bought. Here’s all that I was loving last month, plus an important update on an allergic reaction I had to one of these products after I filmed the video.
Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 011 Creamy
This is an oldie, but a goodie, that I’ve loved for quite some time. Although it is not natural, this product is an absolute bargain. Works wonderfully as a setting or touch up powder to help keep you matte. The powder is very finely milled and is surprisingly high quality. Perfect for those with combination to oily skin like me.
Mineral Fusion Hydration Mist
This is a great, natural mist you can spray throughout the day to stay balanced and fresh. The mist is light and fine, so it won’t make your makeup run. The scent is light yet herbal. Not something for everyone, but a fabulous natural alternative to cult favorites like MAC’s Fix+. Like Mineral Fusion’s Pressed Powder Foundation I love, this product is also paraben-free. This is the best thing you can use to fix an overly powdered face.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel
I recently reviewed this product on OMGbuymeTHIS and I’m not sure what else there is to say. This is a fantastic cleanser that has helped diminish my acne significantly in a short amount of time. It just works. It lathers great with my Clarisonic Mia to clean deep down in those clogged pores, too! Yet another paraben-free product I’ve been loving.
Kerastase Nutritive Oleo-Relax, Smoothing Controlling Care
This is a new hair serum I recently splurged on, and I love it! It’s very slippery to the touch and it just melts away frizz into beautiful silky smooth locks. I apply this product when my hair is 90% dry, just before I go in with my round brush and blow dryer. While this product is pricey, you only need a tiny amount, so one bottle will last you a long time. This might be the best hair serum I’ve ever tried.
Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter
Yet another new product I recently hauled and reviewed on OMGbuymeTHIS, this paraben-free body butter is amazing! I usually go for something unscented or more subtle when it comes to body moisturizer but since I love all things citrus this product was made for me. It’s extremely fragrant and zesty, with subtle notes of vanilla. It smells delicious and works great all over the hands and body. This product is also cruelty-free and 100% vegan!
St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion
While I raved about this self tanner in my video, I think I might be finally having an allergic reaction to the Dihydroxyacetone (aka DHA) ingredient in self tanners. While I still stand by my word on this being a high quality self tan lotion that gives a natural looking finish, I think I might stop using this product until I can see a dermatologist or allergy specialist. I applied the self tan last night, let it set overnight, and showered it off this morning. Today I was left with some of the itchiest skin I’ve ever experienced, and tiny pink and white hives appeared all over my arms. From what I’ve read up on DHA, it is actually not an uncommon thing to have a sensitivity to. The majority of self tanners on the market contain this ingredient so I’m pretty bummed that I’ve had an adverse reaction that could be an actual allergy. This was the first self tanner I’ve ever tried, and St. Tropez isn’t cheap!
