Knuckles Cosplay

Ready to channel your inner echidna warrior? We are just under two weeks out from Halloween and I’m back with another closet cosplay look I recently wore to the Anime Impulse Bay Area convention. KTE, otherwise known as Knuckles the Echidna, is one of the most iconic characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. He’s most well known for his strong build, gigantic fists, and fierce loyalty to his friends.

Here’s how you can easily recreate this Knuckles the Echidna costume this Halloween and beyond!

Knuckles’ gloves and the Sonic ring are must have accessories to bring everything together. The other iconic piece is his cowboy hat which I have a little DIY guide for.

Knuckles Cowboy Hat DIY

1. Buy 1.5″ black leather strip from JOANN to create the trim for Knuckles’ hat.
2. Buy 1.5″ wooden discs and wooden stars from Michael’s for hat adornments.
3. Using red nail polish or craft paint, paint circles onto the discs on one side, almost to the edge. Do multiple thin coats allowing for time to dry between layers.
4. Using gold nail polish or craft paint, paint over the stars entirely. Do multiple thin coats allowing for time to dry between layers.
5. Using that same gold, paint around the rim of the discs. Like the steps before, paint multiple thin coats.
6. Using E6000 or another strong glue of your choice, glue the stars down to the discs.
7. Using satin mod podge, brush on a thin layer to seal the finish. Allow at least 30 minutes to set.
8. Trim the black leather strip to fit the base of the cowboy hat.
9. Using a small strip of velcro tape, secure leather band to hat.
10. Using even smaller pieces of velcro tape, secure completed discs to leather band.

The cowboy hat is a really fun touch that really brings this Knuckles costume to life. To mirror Knuckles’s hat from the Paramount+ series, I used a rose gold nail polish that dried down to a soft antique gold finish.
