Chair: West Elm | Vase: HomeGoods
Am I really a blogger if I don’t have pampas grass somewhere in my content? Only kidding! In all honesty, I not only love the look of pampas grass as home decor, I love the ease of floral arrangements that require no maintenance. Faux flowers don’t always look realistic. Something about the natural dried fluffy texture and understated earth tones draws me in. It’s also that little touch of boho flare that dresses up my pretty minimal decor.
Where To Buy Pampas Grass Online
Etsy has the most extensive selection of pampas grass in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Mainstream home decor retailers like Crate & Barrel, World Market, CB2 , Pottery Barn, and Anthropologie also have some options. Poshmark has a bunch as well.
Pampas grass can have natural undertones of cream, tan, gray, yellow, pink, and lavender, so pay close attention to the photos and item description when buying pampas grass online. Pampas grass also comes in a variety of shapes and heights, so take note of the item dimensions as well.
Foraging For Wild Pampas Grass
We’ve all seen it growing in the most predictable, like coastal sandy soils, and surprising places, like business parks and freeway exits. Have you been tempted to take a little for yourself? If you are going to cut down some wild pampas grass, please don’t do it on someone’s private property! Be courteous and be smart.
First things first, wear gardening gloves. The stalks are kind of that fine grain prickly texture. Use garden shears to cut straight across the stalk. Peel back the loose strands and first few layers of the stalk. Then shake it out to remove any bugs or debris still caught in the plumes. Then spray evenly with hairspray and let dry completely. I sprayed mine twice with hairspray, letting it dry for 1 hour between each layer. My bedroom is carpeted so I wanted to make sure the plumes didn’t shed too much when taking it in the house.
And be careful taking it home! Pampas grass is actually an invasive species that pushes out native plants. Untreated plumes shed like crazy which could potentially pollenate other areas while en route home. I’m no botanist but just be aware. You car will also need a thorough vacuum after foraging, especially if you have fabric seats. Trust me on that.
Pampas Grass Arrangement Ideas
My favorite pampas grass arrangements are with floor vases. The stalks are usually so tall they lend themselves perfectly for floor vase arrangements. My floor vase is a tall nude and cream herringbone brushstroke pottery piece I found at HomeGoods. I used 7 stalks of pampas grass in two different heights to create a visually pleasing asymmetric arrangement. It’s boho yet still minimal and understated.
Pampas grass arrangements look amazing on console tables as well. Whether it’s something small with just a few shorter stalks and plumes, or a taller bunch similar to the floor vase style, there are a lot of different ways to go about a pampas grass arrangement here. I also love the look of the arrangements framing something hung on the wall, like a mirror or artwork.
One thing I haven’t yet tried is mixing pampas grass with other dried or fresh cut flowers. I see this in a lot of wedding bouquet images on Pinterest. Pampas grass looks amazing with blush colored roses, white dahlias, baby’s breath, eucalyptus, and so many more plants.
Are you into the pampas grass as home decor trend? Don’t be surprised if you start seeing it pop up in every space I share moving forward. Stay tuned for more home decor updates coming soon!
