Feels like the first day of school. Ate breakfast, packed my lunch, and now I get to walk to work.

Thanks to Timehop, one of my favorite apps for daily nostalgia, I’m reminded this week marks one year in SoMa for me. Always a city girl at heart, I was crushed the three years I was setenced to East Bay life, due to lack of work and financial woes. The good news is that I’m now back in the city and living practically debt free (less than $1.5k left on my student loan)! Prior to that stint, I lived in San Francisco another three years out closer to SFSU where I attended college. The city is really the place for me because I thrive off the fast paced life and access to anything I need around the clock. Sounds awfully demanding, but it’s true! It’s something no life in the suburbs could ever offer me.
I recently moved to a new apartment in SoMa and I can honestly say I still love it here. It’s the perfect proximity to work, freeways, retail, and restaurants. It’s easily walkable, flat, and has good access to public transit (BART, Caltrain, MUNI, etc). Although rent is growing sky high and I’m about the upper limit of my housing budget, I love living here and wouldn’t have it any other way. And if you’re wondering, I certainly don’t miss the daily three hour commute.
To celebrate, I wanted to share a few of my favorite shots I’ve taken along this walk to work over the past year. I find something beautiful to capture almost every day.
