Sonoma County is one of my favorite spots for a weekend getaway for two simple reasons: wine and the proximity to San Francisco. While you can do a day trip, staying overnight allows for more time to explore. I had the opportunity to check out The Sandman Hotel in Santa Rosa last weekend, a property that had been on my radar for quite some time. Let me tell you a few key reasons to stay here on your next Sonoma County trip.
1. The Location
The Sandman Hotel is conveniently located in Santa Rosa, the heart of Sonoma County. Not only does Santa Rosa have tons of dining and nightlife options, it’s a perfect jumping off point for exploring other sides of Sonoma. If you want to explore some of my favorite Sonoma County wineries and vineyards, Healdsburg is about 15 minutes to the north and Glen Ellen is about 30 minutes to the south.
2. The Pool Bar
The pool and hot tub are open daily from 9am – 10pm, but the pool bar is where it’s at! They serve beer, wine, and most importantly frosé, made daily from rosé and freshly pureed strawberries. I can’t wait to come back in summer with my girlfriends to enjoy the frosé poolside once the weather warms up a bit more.
3. The Aesthetics
I can’t not mention the decor! Property mood and ambiance is a huge factor when deciding where to stay when traveling. The Sandman Hotel is casual, fun, and hipster in the very best way. I loved the midcentury modern vibes and styling from the lobby, to our room, down to the pool bar.
4. The Value
Spacious rooms and nice amenities all for a fair price. Free parking, free wifi, Malin + Goetz bath products, mini fridge, and a microwave in the room are just some of the perks of staying at The Sandman Hotel. Also, they are a pet-friendly property which isn’t always easy to find.
Have you been to Santa Rosa before? Some of my favorite local spots include Russian River Brewing for amazing craft beer and bites. In fact, the California Artisan Cheese Festival is coming up next weekend in Santa Rosa. There’s always something going on in the area, and a whole lot more than just wine.

I haven’t stayed at many hotels, but the fact that this place has free wifi AND parking is already a huge plus in my books! Some hotels charge through the nose for internet usage!
